Elizabeth Nelson was born in New York City, graduated from Rhode Island School of Design and received a master’s degree in art at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She moved to a farm in northern Vermont and was part of that working farm for forty years. She has shown paintings in many venues in Vermont, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, New York and Massachusetts. She is represented in galleries and private and public collections in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, New York, and California. She has won two Vermont Public Art commissions for eight paintings and her work is part of the Vermont State Art Collection. She was awarded a residency in Vermont at the Studio Center for Vermont Artist’s Week in 2000 and was part of the Of Land and Local residencies of Burlington City Arts VT in 2015. She was awarded a residency in Reykjavik, Iceland from SIM, The Icelandic Artists Association, for the month of May 2017 and the month of October 2018.
